In 1969 I considered nursing as a career and I applied to Kings College Hospital to
do general nursing. I completed my nurse training in 1976 and was awarded 'Nurse
of the Year'.
I went on to community nursing in the Dulwich area, until the birth of my son Paul in
1977. I returned to the district nursing after eight months fortunate that my Mother
in law and Father in law were able to care for my son whilst I worked.
I reduced to part-time working when Paul started school and had a second child
Claire who was born in 1984. I transferred into both Clinic Nursing and later on to
School Nursing doing a Diploma in Child Health.
I had been asked on several occasions when my own children were at school to
become a Governor but due to work and family commitments I was unable to do so.
We moved to East Preston in 2013, and with my children now both independent
and living their own lives, I felt able to commit to becoming a School Governor.
I have made several commitments to Our Lady, Star of the Sea Catholic Church
since moving to East Preston; coordinating First Holy Communion and Womens'
World Day of Prayer. I also continue to serve the Parish as a Eucharistic Minister.
