Pen Licences!

Congratulations to the first five recipients of the Hexham Class Pen Licence!

These five children were chosen for pen licences because:

  • They use their pencil smartly.
  • They look after class pencils and keep them safe.
  • Their writing is neat and joined.
  • They write smartly on the line or using a line guide.
  • They make only a few mistakes, which they cross out neatly with one line.
  • They have made improvements with their spellings.

If you can achieve all these points everyday for 4 weeks then you can earn your pen licence too!

Science Week - Could you be the next Crime Scene Investigator?

Hexham Class arrived at the beginning of Science Week (6th February 2017) to find that their classroom had been turned into a crime scene!  The case of the stolen glue sticks had five suspects and these were gradually eliminated over the course of the week through fingerprint , footprint and substance analysis.  The week ended with the final suspect being taken to court!

ZooLab's Rainforest Road Show - February 2017

On Wednesday 1st February, Hexham Class had a visit from ZooLab UK. Joe (the ZoobLab presenter) brought in 5 real rainforest animals for us to meet and it was a great opportunity to learn about the animals and their natural environments. We even had an extra visitor - Pepper, Joe's pet rat!

The animals we met were:

  • Brain the Giant Land Snail
  • Wayde the Hissing Cockroach
  • Felecia the Tarantula
  • Max the Millipede
  • A beautiful Corn Snake who had only shed his skin the night before.

We were all very brave and were allowed to hold nearly all of the animals.

Here are some photos from our morning:

Rainforest Dioramas

In our Art and DT lessons we created shoebox dioramas of the rainforest to show the four layers.  To accompany this we created a leaflet to inform others about what they might find in each layer of the rainforest.

You can see our leaflets on our celebration wall.

Stunning Start - January 2017

During our stunning start we researched different rainforests around the world, using non-fiction text books. We used dictionaries to understand the terminology and made 3D salt dough models of our chosen rainforest continent. We drafted, edited and presented our own documentary, using our model, in the style of David Attenborough.
