Religious Education (RE)
At St Wilfrid’s, Religious Education is at the heart of all we do and is genuinely enjoyed by our children. Across all year groups, we follow the Day by Day programme, which is rooted in the requirements of the Religious Education Directory (RED). While children develop a secure knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith through their lessons, they are also encouraged to respond to their learning in a variety of creative and meaningful ways.
Through our RE curriculum, we provide engaging and enriching learning experiences that support children in developing their relationship with God. We recognise that every child is unique and create opportunities for them to make connections between their own experiences and the teachings of the Catholic faith. Through discussion, reflection, deep questioning and the sharing of ideas, children develop their religious literacy while deepening their understanding of Scripture, Church teaching and the wider world.
We are passionate about ensuring that every child can access and succeed in Religious Education. We believe that no barrier, including literacy skills, should limit a child’s participation or achievement. Through appropriate support, guidance and carefully planned learning experiences, we enable all pupils to engage confidently and meaningfully in their RE journey.
We aim to prepare our pupils for life beyond primary school, equipping them to be resilient, compassionate and active participants in building God’s Kingdom. Through their learning, children are encouraged to apply their knowledge and understanding of God’s work to the opportunities and challenges they encounter, both now and in the future. Inspired by the Gospel values, they learn how their faith can shape their choices and enable them to make a positive contribution to the lives of others.
As part of our commitment to the wider Catholic community, we work closely with schools across the Bosco Catholic Education Trust and our Deanery, planning and collaborating on projects throughout the year. These opportunities enable pupils to learn and work alongside their peers from other Catholic schools, strengthening their sense of belonging to the wider Church family. Our strong partnership with the parish community of Our Lady Star of the Sea further enriches this experience, providing children with valuable opportunities to learn from clergy who share their faith, ministry and lived experiences. Through these encounters, pupils gain a deeper understanding of their faith and the role they can play within the Church community. Each year, we also join together with other Diocesan schools for the Good Shepherd Celebration, to celebrate all the is unique about Catholic Education.
